The Universal Postal Union (UPU), an agency of the United Nations that coordinates postal policies among member nations, has announced the launch of a new address verification API that hopes to help improve address accuracy and reliability. The API is built upon the organization’s POST*CODE database of global address data.

This new API not only Builds upon the POST*CODE database, it also leverages various technologies to provide a robust solution for address verification. Luc Hauss, Addressing Solutions manager for UPU, noted in the press release that:

“In addition to checking address components against the POST*CODE DataBase, it also checks against derivative databases, such as postal addressing systems, the standardized address format description and knowledge center information, such as postcode length and postcode format,”

Developers can check out the agency’s technology Portal for more information on all available APIs.
